Former England captain Andrew Strauss was explained as »an outstanding individual » after getting a knighthood at ex-Prime Minister Theresa May’s resignation honours list.
Strauss, 42, led England to two Ashes wins, as well as the number one Exam ranking, in his 50 Tests.
Ex-England coach Andy Flower, accountable during Strauss’ time , also paid tribute.
« I cannot think of a person more worthy of this honour, » Flower said.
« As a player he was tough and resilient, as a priest he balanced a business hand and moral compass with a compassion and empathy that meant he had been respected and loved in the dressing area by his players and the team . »
Geoffrey Boycott, Yet another former England captain , also got a knighthood.
Strauss scored 7,037 runs in a mean of 40.91 at 100 England Tests and combined the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as England’s director of cricket following his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2012.
He left the role to support his wife and went on to launch a foundation in her name
ECB chief executive Tom Harrison added: »Andrew was invited to shape the future plan of the men’s international teams – in part to allow an environment that could see England as reside contenders for the World Cup in 2019, an aim they thus thrillingly delivered just a few short months ago.
« It was with the same course and courage that he and his family set up the Ruth Strauss Foundation to raise money and awareness merely a couple of months after dropping Ruth to a rare type of cancer.
« Apart from his achievements on and off the pitch, Andrew is widely considered to be an exceptional person in our game and this great accolade will be renowned throughout the cricketing world »
